Nash wasn't extended a qualifying offer by the Hurricanes on Monday and will become an unrestricted free agent, James Mirtle of TSN 1050 AM reports.

Analysis:

A former first-round selection in 2007, Nash's first two full seasons in the NHL qualified as disappointments after he managed only 49 points across 141 games, but it's somewhat surprising the Hurricanes are electing to cut bait on him already. The 26-year-old didn't have the luxury of playing alongside much talent, so perhaps another organization with more resources on the wing can help him unlock some potential.
