Eagles sign John Moffitt to 1-year deal

The Philadelphia Eagles are starting to add depth after the release of guard Evan Mathis.

Philadelphia signed offensive guard John Moffitt to a one-year deal on Monday. The two sides were in talks last week about a contract.

Moffitt was drafted by the Seattle Seahawks in 2011, but abruptly retired in 2013 while with the Denver Broncos. Jay Glazer of FOX Sports recently revealed that Moffitt called it quits to treat a drug addiction and get his life straightened out.

After training hard at a comeback, the 28-year-old will try and push Allen Barbre in training camp for the right to replace Mathis. Despite only playing two seasons, Moffitt has 15 starts to Barbre's eight.

Right guard is also far from settled, so the Eagles will no doubt be watching Moffitt closely to see how prepared he is to return to the field.

The Eagles released guard Cole Manhart to make room for Moffitt.
