Shkodran Mustafi's agent, father both claim Real Madrid is interested in Valencia defender

Real Madrid is looking into the possibility of signing versatile Valencia defender Shkodran Mustafi. That is, of course, if you believe claims from the German's father and agent.

The two men both say that Los Blancos have reached out to determine the likelihood of acquiring the 23-year-old, who joined Valencia from Sampdoria in 2014 for a mere €8 million, and now has a buyout clause of €50 million in his contract.

"It's true; there has been contact via telephone regarding this matter," Kujtim Mustafi was quoted as saying by AS. "Some of these calls took place last season. Madrid is a great club and I'd be lying if I said I wouldn't be proud of my son signing for this club."

Mustafi's agent, Ali Bulut, echoed those sentiments.

"There have been direct enquiries from Real Madrid. But no further conversations nor negotiations," he told Bild, as translated by ESPN FC.

"Barcelona have also been in touch with us with a view to incorporating Musfati in the winter transfer window. (But) Mustafi has a good contract at Valencia, a great club and for him to leave Mestalla, everything would need to be perfect."

The mention of Barcelona from Mustafi's agent is the most intriguing element, as it gives off the unsavory odour that this is nothing more than an attempt to force Valencia into giving his client a pay increase, trying to use two of the world's most prestigious clubs to pad Mustafi's - and his own - wallet.
