Warriors' Kerr in Curry's exit interview: 'I think you need to work on your shot'

Kyle Terada-USA TODAY Sports

After only 416 career games, Steph Curry ranks 50th in all-time 3-pointers made.

He has the single-season record, the single postseason record, and ranks 20th in career postseason threes after 40 games. He is, without question, the greatest volume outside shooter of this - or any other - generation.

But he's third in career 3-point percentage, and the man in first place happens to be the man conducting Curry's exit interview. Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr is one of two players in history who can boast a better 3-point percentage than Curry, even if it came on fewer attempts, and Kerr wasn't willing to let his sharpshooter get complacent this summer.

Player 3FG 3FG%
Steve Kerr 726 45.4%
Hubert Davis 728 44.1%
Steph Curry 1191 44.0%
Kyle Korver 1729 43.2%
Steve Novak 567 43.1%

Kerr's season-ending exit interview with Curry was terribly brief, as covered by Lee Jenkins of Sports Illustrated in a terrific feature published Monday:

"Friday? What about the exit interviews?"

Kerr glanced at Steph. "What did you think of the year?"

"I thought it was incredible," the point guard said.

"I thought it was incredible too. But you could really be a better shooter. I think you need to work on your shot this summer. Great year. Give me a hug."

Kerr is clearly joking, and two weeks removed from the NBA Finals, it's worth remembering just how incredible Curry's season was. The MVP hit 44.3 percent of his outside shots, leading the league with 286 makes and 646 attempts, while averaging 23.8 points, 4.3 rebounds, 7.7 assists, and leading the league with 163 steals. He also paced the NBA with a 91.4-percent mark from the charity stripe, narrowly missing a 50/40/90 shooting split with a 48.7-percent mark from the floor.

Through six seasons, Curry has averaged 20.9 points while knocking down 44 percent of his threes, averaging 2.86 makes per game. At that rate, he'd need to play 1,040 games (624 more) to break Ray Allen's career 3-point record, but nobody can touch Curry on a per-game basis.

Player 3FG/gm 3FG% 3FG
Steph Curry 2.9 44.0% 1191
Klay Thompson 2.6 41.8% 784
Damian Lillard 2.4 36.7% 599
Ray Allen 2.3 40.0% 2973
Peja Stojakovic 2.2 40.1% 1760

If Curry heeds Kerr's advice and improves his jumper, the rest of the NBA may want to just close up shop for 2015-16.
