Andrej Nestrasil has gone from the waiver wire to signing a two-year NHL contract in less than a year.

The Carolina Hurricanes have agreed to terms with the Czech forward on a two-year contract, general manager Ron Francis announced Monday. The deal will pay Nestrasil $875,000 in 2015-16 and $950,000 in 2016-17.

"Andrej is a big body and a good fit for our team and what we’re trying to do," Francis said. "He battled an injury last season, but proved he could produce offensively on the NHL level."

Drafted in the third round by the Detroit Red Wings in 2009, Nestrasil scored seven goals and added 11 assists in 41 games after being plucked off waivers by Carolina last season.
