Adi leads Timbers over Sounders in Cascadia Cup

Portland, OR (SportsNetwork.com) - Fernando Adi scored two goals in two minutes to give the Portland Timbers a 4-1 win over the Seattle Sounders on Sunday night at Providence Park.

Billed as one of Major League Soccer's fiercest rivalries, both teams will have a little extra motivation to claim three points as both sides are coming off poor performances in their last outings.

The Timbers opened the scoring in the 12th minute, when Diego Valeri sent a pass to Darlington Nagbe far outside the box. Nagbe blasted a shot from outside the box and beat Seattle keeper Stefan Frei to the upper corner to give Portland a 1-0 lead.

In the 38th minute Tyrone Mears sent a cross to Lamar Neagle who found the back of the net as the Sounders tied the score 1-1 at the break.

Portland broke the tie in the 74th minute, when Nagbe crossed the ball into the box and Fernando Adi blasted the ball into the upper right corner to give the Timbers a 2-1 lead.

Minutes later Adi pushed the Timbers lead to 3-1 with another blast to the upper right corner. Rodney Wallace found Adi open in the center of the box which sealed the win for Portland.

Just as the fourth referee held up the sign signifying three extra minutes of game time, Maximiliano Urruti sent a pass into the box and Wallace deposited the ball in the net to give Portland a 4-1 win.
