Josh Hamilton could rejoin Rangers on Monday

The next chapter in Josh Hamilton's season of redemption could begin as soon as Monday.

Texas Rangers manager Jeff Banister suggested prior to Sunday's series finale against the Toronto Blue Jays that the 34-year-old outfielder - who landed on the disabled list June 2 with a left hamstring strain - might rejoin the team Monday in Baltimore should he make it through Sunday's rehab game without any issues.

"I think there's a chance that he joins us, but you gotta come out of the game today clean," Banister told MLB.com's Jamie Ross. "He's got a game to play, he's gotta come out of it clean and we have to make sure he's healthy."

Through three rehab games thus far - one with Double-A Frisco and another two with Triple-A Round Rock - the former MVP is 4-for-10 (.400) with one double and two strikeouts.

"We'd need to make that decision based on how he feels, what the medical people see where he's at, and really just how much stress he's put on the leg," Banister said.

Hamilton's latest stint on the disabled list interrupted a triumphant return to Texas for the five-time All-Star, whose relationship with the Los Angeles Angels ended somewhat acrimoniously following an offseason relapse. In seven games with the Rangers before hurting his hamstring, Hamilton posted a 1.021 OPS with a pair of home runs while delivering a walk-off, pinch-hit double against the Boston Red Sox on May 31, his final game before landing on the disabled list.
