Dubnyk confident in sustained success after signing 6-year deal with Wild

Devan Dubnyk believes he's just getting started with the Minnesota Wild.

The goaltender signed a six-year deal worth a reported $26 million Saturday, and is confident his wildly successful run down the stretch last season was no flash in the pan.

"I’m a pretty simple goalie the way I play. The way we played as a group, there weren’t any miracles happening out there," Dubnyk told Michael Russo of the Star Tribune. "We were playing the right way and for myself it was just being simple and strong and keeping it tight. I wasn’t doing back flips out there and doing stuff that I’m not capable of continuing to do.

"I’m only 29 years old. I’m fully planning on continuing to get better as I go here."

Dubnyk appeared in 38 games for the Wild after being acquired from the Arizona Coyotes, posting a 27-9-2 record with five shutouts and a .936 save percentage.

The performance propelled the club into the playoffs and earned him a nod as a Vezina Trophy finalist.

Personal accolades aside, Dubnyk's pleased to remain with teammates with whom he quickly formed a strong bond.

"The most exciting thing for me is knowing I get to be part of a really good hockey team for a long time," he said. "Getting a chance to play with that group of guys last year was the best experience for me."
