Report: Johan Santana postpones comeback bid to 2016

Anthony Gruppuso-US PRESSWIRE

Former Minnesota Twins and New York Mets pitcher Johan Santana has suspended his bid to pitch in the majors this season and is hoping to try again in 2016, according to Adam Rubin of ESPN.com.

Santana, who signed a minor league deal with the Toronto Blue Jays in February, is nursing a toe infection and did not believe that he would have enough time after recovery to return to major league form and be able to pitch this season.

The 36-year-old is a two-time Cy Young Award winner (2004, 2006), a three-time All-Star and achieved the pitching Triple Crown in 2006. He has not pitched in the majors since 2012 when he went 6-9 with a 4.85 ERA with the Mets.
