Sabres receive O'Reilly in trade with Avalanche

Sunrise, FL (SportsNetwork.com) - The Buffalo Sabres acquired forward Ryan O'Reilly in a multi-player trade with the Colorado Avalanche at Friday's 2015 NHL Entry Draft.

The Sabres also received forward Jamie McGinn and sent defenseman Nikita Zadorov, forwards Mikhail Grigorenko and J.T. Compher and a 2015 second-round pick (No. 31 overall) to the Avalanche.

O'Reilly, 24, was entering the last year of his two-year, $12 million contract and played in 82 games for the Avalanche last season, tallying 17 goals and 38 assists.

Drafted 33rd overall by the Avalanche in 2009, O'Reilly has compiled 90 goals and 156 assists over 427 games spanning six seasons.

McGinn scored four goals with two assists over 19 games while battling injuries last season. He has posted 69 goals and 128 points in 366 NHL games over seven seasons with the Sharks and Avalanche.

Grigorenko was selected 12th overall by the Sabres in 2012 and played in 25 games last season, registering three goals and three assists. He was coached by current Avalanche head coach Patrick Roy with the Quebec Remparts of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League for three seasons prior to turning pro.

Another first-round selection (16th overall in 2013), Zadorov appeared in 60 games as a rookie last seasons, finishing with three goals and 12 assists.

Compher, drafted in the second round in 2013, finished his sophomore season at the University of Michigan, where he posted 12 goals and 12 assists in 2014-15.

Earlier on Friday, the Sabres received goaltender Robin Lehner and forward David Legwand from the Ottawa Senators in exchange for the 21st overall draft pick in Friday's draft.
