Minnesota's Reilly chooses Wild

Fort Lauderdale, FL (SportsNetwork.com) - Free agent defenseman Mike Reilly, who courted multiple NHL teams following his departure from college, will apparently stay local.

On Friday, the St. Paul Pioneer Press reported that Reilly, a Minnesota Golden Gopher for the last three seasons, has chosen to sign with the Minnesota Wild.

In 2014-15, Reilly collected 42 points (6G, 36A) in 39 games, and completed his collegiate career with 18 goals and 71 assists over 117 appearances for the storied program. He was a key part of Minnesota's Frozen Four entrant in 2014, which reached the national final before falling to upstart Union College.

The 21-year-old native of the Twin Cities region decommitted from Don Lucia's team and became a free agent on June 16. The Wild will not be able to sign the dynamic blueliner until the opening of the free agency period on July 1, and, according to the paper, he will be inked to a two-year, $1.85 million contract.

Reilly was originally drafted by the Blue Jackets four years ago, but opted against signing with the club.
