Mario Hezonja has spent the last several years preparing himself to become an NBA player. He's spent the last several weeks preparing himself to become a fan favorite.

The Orlando Magic made Hezonja the No. 5 overall pick Thursday, a nice upside play and potentially a great fit given their existing core. It stands as a bit of a risk since Hezonja couldn't work out for any teams or participate in the combine - Barcelona was playing in the Spanish ACB league finals up until Wednesday.

While the general NBA population may not yet be familiar with the sharpshooting 20-year-old forward, they will be soon. The book on Hezonja is that he comes oozing with confidence - a gift and a curse, surely - and his six-week-old Instagram account backs that up. Sure, his selfie game is strong, but it's the online trash talk that really captures the heart.

Like early in June, when Hezonja made a Drake reference while hyping a jump shot made over former NBA player Andres Nocioni.

Or last week, when Hezonja pre-emptively fired shots at Real Madrid defenders.

This isn't newfound confidence, either. In July, he said the following when asked about respecting his opponents:

Respect? No, I never had respect to anybody on a basketball court. I heard about: "If they smell blood, you get eaten." I'm not like that. I don't care. Whether it's a veteran or a young player standing in front of me I always have the same goal. I want to run over everybody.

Hezonja is going to be a ton of fun no matter what - either he's going to be great and his ego will make him one of the league's most-hated villains, or he'll be bad and the misplaced arrogance will be hilarious. The smarter bet is on the former.
