Report: Shakhtar's Douglas Costa to join Bayern Munich

Douglas Costa could be on the verge of a move to Bayern Munich after Shakhtar Donetsk's manager Mircea Lucescu admitted the Brazilian has reached his development peak with the Ukrainian club.

"There have been discussions since the winter," Lucescu told Dolce Sport, courtesy of ESPNFC. "Douglas couldn't develop any more with us."

Costa, who scored his first international goal with Brazil during the Copa America against Peru, joined Shakhtar in 2009 from Gremio.

His impending arrival will offer some options for Pep Guardiola's side after a season where Bayern was ravaged by injuries. Arjen Robben was one of the main components of the squad that went down with an ailment, as Lucescu predicts Costa could be a promising successor to the Dutch international.

"I see him taking on Robben's role -- he has a similar profile," Lucescu said. "He's only 24 years old, so he could reach his level in the coming years."

An official announcement from either side has yet to be made, but the transfer will reportedly cost Bayern €35 million to lure Costa to the Bundesliga and will likely be finalised when Costa returns from the Copa America in Chile.
