Report: Seahawks offer Russell Wilson deal in range of Cam Newton's

The Seattle Seahawks and Russell Wilson don't appear to be close on a contract extension, but apparently there is at least one offer on the table.

Seattle has offered their quarterback a deal in the range of Cam Newton's recent extension, according to Mike Garafolo of FOX Sports. That's something Wilson isn't willing to accept.

Newton's reported five-year, $103-million extension is nothing to scoff at, but he also doesn't boast the resume Wilson does. After a pair of Super Bowl appearances and a championship, Wilson is certainly going to demand more than the Carolina Panthers quarterback.

Reports have surfaced saying Wilson wants to be the highest paid player in the league, and really, who doesn't? That may or may not be realistic, and even if he does get that type of money, it's likely to be trumped when Andrew Luck signs his deal anyway.

Even if things aren't going well with negotiations, we're still a long way away from even considering the possibility Wilson will be leaving the Seahawks. If worse comes to worse, Seattle could always use the franchise tag on Wilson in 2016 to buy themselves more time to workout something long-term.

A deal will get done, just maybe not in the immediate future.
