David Carr on brother Derek: 'He understands the game more than I did'

David Carr knows a thing or two about the pressures young quarterbacks face when entering the NFL.

Things didn't pan out for the former first-overall pick, but he thinks his brother Derek will have a better fate. David thinks the Oakland Raiders quarterback is in a much better position than he was in the league.

"He understands the game more than I did, so his confidence level is just off the charts," David told 95.7 The Game. "(His) leadership ability is kind of where I was never at early on in my career. He's able to go out and get guys that are seven, eight years older than him to actually buy in to what he's doing, and believe that he can play, and believe that he can go out and lead the team."

The older brother also marveled at Derek's ability to throw the ball.

"He just has a natural ability to throw the ball, just effortlessly, and it's not really difficult for him," David said. "It literally is effortless for him to throw the football."

Derek isn't facing the pressure that David had with the expansion Houston Texans, but turning around the Raiders will be no easy task. Oakland hasn't had a winning record since 2002 and if Derek can lead the team back to the postseason, many will consider that a major success story in itself.
