Peyton Manning sends gift to family of teen killed by drunk driver

After losing her grandson, Logan Thomas, to a drunk driver in March, Gayle Ricketts decided to share the teenager's story in a letter to Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning.

"As a grandmother I felt like I should let Peyton know this young man idolized him and what he meant in his life," Ricketts told WFIE-TV in Indianapolis.

On Tuesday, which would have been Logan's 16th birthday, his family received a very special package. Inside was a handwritten letter and an autographed picture from Manning.

"It blew me away," Ricketts said. "I called Charles (Brown, Logan's father) when the letter came. I didn't even open it. I called Charles to come over. I said the Broncos answered me."

Logan became a fan of Manning's when he was with the Indianapolis Colts. His family had planned to take him to a Broncos game.

Manning's gesture was more than just a birthday gift for the family, and it's something they won't soon forget.

"To take the time to send something back to a situation in Evansville, Indiana that he probably doesn't know anything about," Brown said. "It's important to see that they're humans and for these other kids to see you never forget where you come from."
