Ex-NFL QB Elvis Grbac: Johnny Manziel is 'on the right path'

Former NFL quarterback Elvis Grbac grew up in Cleveland and still calls the city home, paying close attention to the Browns, and the trials and tribulations of quarterback Johnny Manziel.

The Browns used Manziel sparingly in his rookie season, and appear set with veteran journeyman Josh McCown as their starting quarterback for 2015, but Grbac believes there are better days ahead for the former Heisman winner.

"It's obviously a learning experience," Grbac, now a high-school football coach, told ESPN's Michael Rothstein. "I think he's going in the right direction. He's on the right path. I think it'll be somewhat of a rude awakening the first couple games of the season and he will have to adjust.

"Going from the college level to the professional level is a huge jump, and you need to act like a professional. You need to prepare like a professional, and he will learn that as the years go on."

It took some time, but Manziel appears to have got the message. He spent two months in rehab earlier this offseason, moved to a suburban golf community, and announced that he will be retiring his signature "money sign" celebration.

Grbac believes opponents will be paying close attention to Manziel when he eventually ends up taking the field.

"What goes through my head is that everyone is kind of licking their chops, like the Steelers, I know they can’t wait to play them," Grbac said. "Especially in that division, you have an extremely tough division. I think he's humbled himself a little bit. He's not doing the money sign anymore and all of that.

"So we'll see. But is he acting a little bit more professional? Maybe he is."
