Blue Jays' Travis expected to be activated from DL on Friday

Evan Habeeb-USA TODAY Sports

Toronto Blue Jays manager John Gibbons is expecting that second baseman Devon Travis will be activated from the disabled list Friday and return from his rehab stint with Double A-New Hampshire.

"That's probably going to happen," Gibbons said according to Sportsnet's Shi Davidi.

The 24-year-old has been on the disabled list since May 17 due to inflammation in his left shoulder. He appeared in a game with Triple-A Buffalo on May 29 where the shoulder flared up once again and just resumed playing again last week in New Hampshire.

Travis was on fire at the plate before his injury, earning American League Rookie of the Month for April batting .325 with six home runs and 19 RBIs. If he returns to that strong form, it will add one more weapon to a lethal Blue Jays lineup.

Current second baseman Ryan Goins will be moved into a utility role, according to FAN 590's Mike Wilner.
