Senators kicked tires about acquiring Coyotes' 3rd overall pick

With an abundance of talented prospects sitting at the top of the draft board this year, the Ottawa Senators wanted to see what it would take to be in that mix.

The team will have to wait until pick No. 18 to finally take the stage at Friday's draft, part of the reason why general manager Bryan Murray kicked tires on acquiring the Arizona Coyotes' third overall selection.

"I always ask the question, but I don’t think that pick in particular is in play at this point for us,” Murray told reporters Tuesday. “I think where we’re picking back at 18, that would be hard for him to move that far no matter what price I paid, but we have to ask the question anyway.”

As it stands, it seems unlikely that the Senators will be able to attain the pick, but Murray at least seems open to trying to move up the draft ladder.

It was reported on Tuesday that the Coyotes had at least one team that was "being really aggressive" in pursuing the pick.
