Report: Dolphins owner Stephen Ross attempting to buy Formula One

Steve Mitchell-US PRESSWIRE / Reuters

Miami Dolphins owner Stephen Ross is teaming with a group of investors from Qatar to purchase a controlling interest in open wheel auto racing series Formula One.

According to the Financial Times, the bid is in the neighborhood of $7 or $8 billion dollars and would focus on increasing the sports profile in the United States.

Ross' firm, RSE Ventures, is looking to buy 35.5 percent of the company that currently owns F1, as other bids for the racing circuit have failed over the last few years.

Ross already broke the bank in the NFL offseason, signing defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh and tight end Jordan Cameron to lucrative deals and extending franchise quarterback Ryan Tannehill.
