Iowa State adds JUCO transfer Kendall Williams

The Cyclones will look a little less thin at running back next season thanks to a junior college commit.

Butte College (California) running back Kendall Williams will transfer to Iowa State after committing on Saturday, according to the Ames Tribune's Bobby La Gesse.

"The reason I got interested in them was because I heard about their running back situation and I was looking for a home, looking for a school to attend," said Williams. "It was crazy how all those things worked out."

The Cyclones were originally interested in Williams after he rushed for 1,156 yards and nine touchdowns in 2013, but he committed to play for Arizona. However, a broken hip would ultimately keep him from becoming a Wildcat.

After running back Martinez Syria was dismissed from the team for an unspecified violation of team rules, a call was reportedly made to Williams, offering him a scholarship, according to ESPN's Jake Trotter.

Tyler Brown, who gained 109 yards as a freshman in 2014, and redshirt freshman Mike Warren will be Williams' competition for carries.
