The Washington Nationals' dominant pitching performance over the weekend was record-breaking.
Six Nationals pitchers combined to throw 24 scoreless innings in a three-game sweep of the Pittsburgh Pirates to set a team record dating back to when the organization moved from Montreal in 2005.
Pitcher | IP | H | SO | BB |
---|---|---|---|---|
Max Scherzer | 9 | 0 | 10 | 0 |
Gio Gonzalez | 7 | 4 | 4 | 2 |
Joe Ross | 6.2 | 3 | 9 | 1 |
Drew Storen | 1 | 0 | 2 | 0 |
Matt Thornton | 1 | 1 | 1 | 0 |
David Carpenter | 0.2 | 0 | 0 | 0 |
Anchored by a no-hitter from Scherzer on Saturday, the Nationals gave the Pirates a taste of their own medicine after Pittsburgh's pitchers tossed 35 2/3 consecutive scoreless innings earlier in the week.
The Pirates would plate two innings in the top of the ninth inning on Sunday off Nationals left-hander Felipe Rivero to snap the 24-inning scoreless streak.
