Report: Valencia toying with idea of requesting Keylor Navas on 1-year loan

Valencia CF are reportedly mulling over one of the planet's most criminally underused 'keepers to replace the injured Diego Alves.

According to Spanish daily AS, the goalkeeping situation at Real Madrid is being monitored by Valencia as they consider whether to request Keylor Navas on a one-year loan.

Alves suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament as well as a torn meniscus during Valencia's last fixture of the season, and will apparently not be ready to take the pitch again until February.

Despite signing a six-year deal with Real Madrid last summer after carrying Costa Rica to the quarterfinals of the World Cup, Navas spent the majority of his first season at the Santiago Bernabeu as Iker Casillas's understudy, making only six appearances in La Liga and another two in the Champions League.

There was always reason to expect Navas would have to prove his worth to dethrone Casillas as Real Madrid's first-choice 'keeper, but the 28-year-old wasn't offered a single opportunity to do so.

Furthermore, David De Gea is reportedly on the verge of joining his hometown club after telling his teammates at Manchester United he's leaving for Real Madrid.

It should be noted that Navas's high wage demands could impede a move to the Mestalla Stadium.
