Red Sox owner John Henry: 'We've played like bleep'

The man who signs the Boston Red Sox's checks hasn't been impressed with his $184-million investment so far this season.

Losers of six of their last seven, the Red Sox occupy the basement of the division and own the second-lowest winning percentage in the American League.

"It's difficult for the fans," Henry told reporters Tuesday. "I wouldn't be supportive as a fan watching these games. Some of these games have been abysmal. We've played like bleep. But there's a resolve here to turn it around and that'll happen."

While Henry labeled the team's 22-29 start unacceptable, he isn't preparing any drastic changes.

"I really think, and everybody in the organization feels this is the right team" Henry said. "If anything, I think we should be supportive at this time. I can't turn it around. It's gotta be out on the field and I think it will happen."

Henry confirmed that the jobs of general manager Ben Cherington and manager John Farrell are secure despite a last place finish in 2014 that proceeded this year's difficult start.

"No. Not at all," Henry said when asked if Cherington or Farrell's jobs were on the line.

"I'm very disappointed. It's been an unacceptable 50 games. I think there's no one in the organization that does not feel that way and these guys have got to turn it around. There won't be drastic change. I think this is the right team."

Cherington spent big on the Red Sox offense over the winter, committing $188 million to Pablo Sandoval and Hanley Ramirez who have been disappointing during their two month tenure.

"At this point, you can question that, and you should, we should question that," Henry said of how the Red Sox spent this offseason. "But as we look at it, we're 50 games in, that's a lot of games but if you look over history at the 50-game mark, it's not necessarily representative of where you end up.

"We feel confident about the rest - we've got over 100 games to play, but they're going to have to prove it on the field that we made the right decisions and they'll prove us right or they'll prove us wrong."
