Ducks' Andersen on season: 'I think I've taken a step. ... I'm still not satisfied'

Frederik Andersen isn't a believer in baby steps.

The Anaheim Ducks goaltender allowed five goals to the Chicago Blackhawks on Saturday, providing little support in a contest that ended his team's season.

Andersen, 25, enjoyed the most successful season of his brief career, cementing himself into the team's starting goaltending role, while earning a record of 35-12-5 with a goals-against average of 2.38 and a save percentage of .914.

Despite the fantastic regular season and a good run though the playoffs - where he didn't lose a regulation contest until May 19 against the Blackhawks - the goaltender feels like he needs work.

"I think I've taken a step," Andersen said. "I'm still not satisfied. I learned a lot from last year and this year. It still (stinks)."

Ducks head coach Bruce Boudreau believed in his netminder and didn't place any fault on him for the team's season ending prematurely.

"I'm not laying any blame on Freddie. He kept us in so many games this year, it was ridiculous. He played his heart out too."

Heart is valuable, but Andersen admits that he needs to build on his success from this season and continue to get better if he hopes to tend net for a Stanley Cup winner.

"I know that I've taken steps," Andersen said. "But we'll see. I'll talk to the people on my team to get me better, my trainers and stuff. How to build for next year. It's not going to be tomorrow, but it's going to be hopefully pretty soon.
