Vikings' Adrian Peterson sounds off on contract situation, non-guaranteed deals

Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson hinted Wednesday that his absence from OTAs had to do with his contract. On Thursday, he was crystal clear.

Peterson went off on Twitter, expressing concern about his contract situation:

The running back added that once a player no longer has any guaranteed money left, the team has all the power.

Peterson is in a vulnerable position as far as his contract goes. The Vikings still owe him more than $44 million over the next three seasons, but with none of that guaranteed, they can also release him whenever they choose without suffering financially.

While still a very talented player, Peterson is now 30 years old and running backs at that age simply don't last long.

The Vikings appear willing to have him this year and pay him his near $13 million salary. His best course of action may be to prove in 2015 that he's still an elite back, and ultimately force the Vikings to want to keep him around for 2016 and possibly beyond.

Peterson would attempt to clarify his position by talking about the union's inability to get guaranteed contracts for its players, a scenario Peterson philosophically disagrees with.
