Broncos' Shane Ray held out of OTAs, hopes to begin practicing next week

Denver Broncos rookie Shane Ray has yet to take his first snaps with his new teammates.

The team's first-round pick is being held out of OTAs as he recovers from a toe injury suffered in his final game at Missouri, ESPN's Jeff Legwold reports.

Ray isn't expected to practice this week but Broncos head coach Gary Kubiak says he's hopeful his rookie will get going next week.

Ray's injury has been described as a type of turf toe. There's no indication it will hinder his production as a rookie provided he recovers fully before the season begins.

"It's a process and it's not something we want to rush," Ray said recently. "We want to make sure when I do come back I can be me."

Ray is expected to slot in as the third pass-rushing option behind Von Miller and DeMarcus Ware in the Broncos' new 3-4 defensive scheme.
