Report: Broncos' Antonio Smith to sit out OTAs

Brett Davis-US PRESSWIRE

Denver Broncos defensive end Antonio Smith, who is being investigated for child abuse in Texas, will not be participating in organized team activities due to personal reasons, according to Mike Klis of 9NEWS.

OTAs are voluntary, but after several discussions with Smith, Broncos general manager John Elway, head coach Gary Kubiak, and president Joe Ellis came to a collective decision that it would be best if he took some time away from the team to focus on his legal situation, Klis reports.

Fort Bend County Sheriff Troy Nehls described a complaint made against Smith in November 2014 as "sexual in nature," according to The Associated Press. No charges have been laid against Smith in the case.

Smith played for the Houston Texans from 2009-2013. He signed a one-year, $2-million contract with the Broncos in April.

The Broncos kick off their four-week OTA/minicamp practice sessions Wednesday.
