Blue Jays' Bautista returns to lineup as DH vs. White Sox

Kim Klement / USA TODAY Sports

Jose Bautista will return to the Toronto Blue Jays' lineup Tuesday night at Rogers Centre, serving as the designated hitter for his club's clash with the Chicago White Sox just two days after receiving a cortisone shot in his ailing right shoulder.

The 34-year-old was omitted from the lineup in each of the last two games following Sunday's cortisone injection, an alternative - he said - to medication that wasn't providing sufficient pain relief for his strained shoulder.

Bautista hasn't played right field since straining his shoulder April 21 and alluded Sunday to the "throbbing pain at night," but the five-time All-Star still hopes to play the outfield when the Blue Jays open a three-game series in Washington on Monday and lose the benefit of the DH.

Though Bautista owns an .817 OPS with seven home runs in 40 games this season, the outfielder is just 1-for-15 (.067) with five walks and two strikeouts over his last five contests.
