VfB Stuttgart have settled on a familiar face in their search for a new manager.

Zorniger, 47, will take over on a three-year contract and is replacing Huub Stevens, who barely saved Stuttgart from relegation for a second consecutive season and announced his departure from the club on Sunday.

Back in 2009, Zorniger worked as an assistant to manager Markus Babbel at Stuttgart, and he shares a deep-rooted connection with the club as they hail from the region in which he was born.

"I'm really looking forward to this challenge at Stuttgart and I'm convinced we can build something here together," Zorniger said. "It's something special to be head coach of this club, in my own home region."
