Report: Karim Benzema being monitored by Manchester United

As the dominoes begin to fall at Real Madrid following the sacking of Carlo Ancelotti, Manchester United are reportedly looking to make a move.

According to Jamie Jackson of the Guardian, Karim Benzema is a target for manager Louis van Gaal, who views the French striker as a solution to United's scoring woes.

A move for Benzema would cost Van Gaal somewhere in the region of £40 million, and although the 27-year-old is signed through 2019 at the Santiago Bernabeu, Ancelotti's departure from Real Madrid is creating uncertainty over Benzema's future.

United's quartet of Wayne Rooney, Robin van Persie, Radamel Falcao, and James Wilson combined for only 26 Premier League goals this season, while Benzema found the back of the net 15 times in La Liga and another six times in the Champions League.
