Senators receiving 'significant interest' in Craig Anderson, Robin Lehner

The Ottawa Senators' surplus in goal could result in a trade sooner than later.

General manager Bryan Murray revealed that he's receiving significant interest in goalies Craig Anderson and Robin Lehner since retaining Andrew Hammond on a three-year extension and landing Boston University prospect Matt O'Connor.

"Five or six teams have called and there has been some discussion and there will continue to be. We'll see what comes of it," he told Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun.

Along with Hammond, Anderson was a top-10 goaltender in terms of save percentage (among those who made at least 20 starts) last season, but had another strong year derailed by injuries. The veteran, who will command $4.75 million over the next two seasons, would be of service to a team looking to win now, but one also willing to gamble.

Meanwhile, Lehner remains a project; his launch toward being a top-flight netminder continues to be delayed. In 25 starts, he posted his worst numbers since his brief appearances as a rookie in 2010-11 before a concussion in February ended his season. He will make a shade over $2 million next season before seeing his salary bump above $3 million the following year.

Garrioch lists the Edmonton Oilers, Buffalo Sabres and San Jose Sharks as teams searching for help in goal, but fell short of confirming their interest in either Senators netminder.
