Jason Terry to return for 17th season next year: '100 percent'

Troy Taormina-USA TODAY Sports

Jason Terry will not be wearing all black with himself in mind for his final game of the 2014-15 postseason, whenever that may be.

That is to say, the 37-year-old is not looking at his Western Conference Finals run with the Houston Rockets as a successful conclusion to his career. The score-first point guard said ahead of Monday's Game 4 against the Golden State Warriors that this season won't be his last, and that he'll be back for 2015-16.

"One hundred percent," Terry said.

What remains unclear is whether Terry's 17th NBA season will come as a member of the Rockets. The Rockets are expected to bring him back, but their offseason could see a great deal of change at the guard position, and Terry's set to hit unrestricted free agency this summer.

While there will be a market for his services, he'll likely be looking at a downgrade in pay from the $5.9 million he made this season. Terry has earned an estimated $103.7 million in his career, and with 10 playoff appearances on his resume, he seems likely to value the opportunity to win over the opportunity to cash in.

And Terry can still contribute some. He averaged seven points in 21.3 minutes per game this season, knocking down 39 percent of his 3-point attempts. He's averaging 8.7 points in the playoffs, too, and would bring 109 games of playoff experience (and counting) to whatever team signs him.

The third-most prolific 3-point shooter in NBA history, Terry has averaged 14.8 points and 4.2 assists over 1,213 games with five teams, shooting 38 percent from long range.
