Report: Chargers' Eric Weddle will not attend OTAs, seeking contract extension
San Diego Chargers safety Eric Weddle will not report to organized team activities (OTAs) according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.
Weddle is irate about the lack of progress on a contract extension, and Chargers general manager Tom Telesco has treated the three-time Pro Bowler's demands with indifference.
"I'm not coming anytime soon until something on their side is gonna be said," Weddle said on May 5. "They know where we're at, and they obviously know their stance, so we'll see what happens from there."
The 30-year-old, who led the NFL in interceptions in 2011, has long been the anchor of the Chargers' secondary. He was selected as a first-team All-Pro for the second time in his career last season.
If Weddle continues to hold out, Darrell Stuckey is expected to take over at free safety, a calamitous proposition if the Chargers are to make a serious run at the playoffs.
