Capitals' Fehr feeling confident about impending UFA season

Eric Fehr is a confident man on and off the ice.

The Washington Capitals forward is set to become an unrestricted free agent this summer, but unlike previous years, the 29-year-old feels confident entering contract negotiations.

“Definitely feeling better about this year than the previous unrestricted year," Fehr told Washington Post's Alex Prewitt. "Honestly, at the end of the day I'd love to be back here and help this team win. It's going to all get decided in the next couple months.”

Fehr is coming off a season where he suited up for a career-high 75 games and was just two goals shy of matching his career-high of 21.

On top of his self-confidence, Fehr would also like to remain with the same organization that drafted him in 2003.

"I really enjoy playing here," Fehr said. "Looking at the amount of guys we have unsigned right now, you just don't know what's going to happen. Obviously that's going to sort itself out down the road. I love being in Washington, I love this city, so we'll see what happens."

Lucky enough for Fehr, Capitals GM Brian MacLellan would also welcome the forward back with open arms.

"We'd love to have him back," MacLellan said.
