Swansea chairman on Michu: 'My feeling is it'll be unlikely he'll be back working with us'

It feels like just yesterday that Michu was the revelation of the Premier League, scoring 18 goals to help Swansea City finish ninth in the table.

In fact, that was two seasons ago, and things have truly gone downhill for the Spanish forward since then.

Injuries and a loss of form resulted in Michu being loaned out to Napoli at the end of the 2013-14 campaign, and further injury problems, including an operation in January, mean he'll finish this season with only three Serie A appearances and zero goals to his name.

Whether or not he returns to the Liberty Stadium next season remains to be seen, but if the words of chairman Huw Jenkins are anything to go by, his time at Swansea appears to be over.

"His future is pretty much in the balance, he's got one year left with us on a contract," Jenkins said, according to BBC Sport. "My feeling is it'll be unlikely he'll be back working with us, but I'm still waiting for a chance to meet with Michu and his agents ... on how they want to proceed. First and foremost it's about working with the player to see what he wants out of it.

"We can't forget what he did for us, so we've got to make sure we go down that route with him and just work out something he's happy with. It's trying to get him right to play football and enjoying playing football again. If he can get through this period with his fitness and get back to the level he was at, he's going to be a good asset for somebody."

Michu joined Swansea from Rayo Vallecano in July 2012 for £2 million, a figure that was viewed as a steal following his debut season.
