Following Manchester United's 1-1 draw versus Arsenal, manager Louis van Gaal could be seen walking alongside David De Gea on the pitch, his right arm around the Spanish 'keeper as the pair discussed what many believed was the topic of his future at Old Trafford.

De Gea, who was replaced by Victor Valdes in the 74th minute and may have featured in his last fixture at United, appears poised for a move to his hometown club, Real Madrid, amid reports that Van Gaal has offered him a £150,000-a-week contract.

Of course, nothing is official yet. However, speaking after Sunday's match, Van Gaal spoke with a tone that provided every indication that a transfer to the Santiago Bernabeu is imminent.

"I don't think I can persuade him because he knows everything he has at Manchester United," Van Gaal said, according to the Guardian. "I don't have to say something because he can feel it every day. You have seen the fans - unbelievable. When he is going, he is losing that. Here he has a lot of credits. He has to decide."

Van Gaal added that he would understand if De Gea opted to join Real Madrid, saying: "I analyse his position and then I say he is Spanish, he is a Spanish international, still behind Iker Casillas. Now a Spanish club is coming, his girlfriend is Spanish, his father and mother come every week or every two weeks here, so it is difficult."

It was reported in late April that Van Gaal was scouting Hugo Lloris of Tottenham as a potential replacement for De Gea, while Chelsea's Petr Cech and Inter Milan's Samir Handanovic are also believed to be on the manager's radar.
