Report: Frank Lampard's contract with New York City FC worth $6M per year

Welcome to the club, Frank.

Soon-to-be New York City FC midfielder Frank Lampard - who is playing out the final months of his contract with Manchester City ahead of his move to North America at season's end - will be joining an exclusive group of MLS players once he arrives in The Big Apple.

Brian Straus of Sports Illustrated reports that Lampard, who will turn 37 in June, will be one of just a handful of players in the league to be making at least $6 million per season.

As Straus explains, Lampard's arrival in the middle of the current MLS season means his contract will actually run for a season-and-a-half:

Lampard’s wages will be pro-rated this season. He’ll then earn the full $6 million in 2016, as well as a marketing bonus.

The English midfielder will be joining a group that includes future teammate David Villa, along with Orlando City star Kaka and Toronto FC captain Michael Bradley.

The contract figures for that trio have been confirmed by the MLS Players Union, but it has been reported by various outlets that new Designated Players Sebastian Giovinco, Jozy Altidore (both TFC) and Steven Gerrard (LA Galaxy) will all collect at least $6 million per year as well.
