Xavi Hernandez made history Tuesday when he entered the match as a second-half substitute for Barcelona and became the first player to appear in 150 Champions League matches.

The record-setting appearance occurred during Barcelona's 3-2 loss to Bayern Munich. The loss, however, wasn't enough to eliminate the Catalan giants, as they progress to the final with a 5-3 aggregate score.

Xavi made his first Champions League appearance at the age of 18 when he came on as a substitute during a match at Old Trafford against Manchester United in 1998.

Real Madrid 'keeper Iker Casillas has a chance to match the record if he's included in Carlo Ancelotti's team selection Wednesday against Juventus.

Cristiano Ronaldo is the only other active player close to the mark with 114 appearances.

Xavi, 35, has a chance to extend the record when Barcelona compete in the Champions League final in Berlin on June 6.
