The 2015-16 Premier League season doesn't kick off for another three months, but Liverpool's title bid is already being hit with injuries as Daniel Sturridge is set to miss the club's first fixtures of the campaign.

Sturridge, who will finish the current season having only made 12 Premier League appearances due to a myriad of ailments, confirmed Tuesday he underwent surgery in New York to correct a hip problem that has kept him sidelined since the beginning of April.

With the next Premier League season set to begin on Aug. 8, Sturridge will likely be watching Liverpool kick off their season from the sidelines.

"We anticipate Daniel will be back hopefully to train around about September time," Rodgers said.

"It's a period of time out, but we're hopeful the problems and issues he's had have been resolved with the operation. Now he can recover and hopefully get back as quick as he possibly can. We're anticipating it's going to be around September before he can actually start training and then it's about getting his fitness up."

Rodgers continued by claiming he's optimistic that Tuesday's operation will remedy the underlying issues of Sturridge's poor fitness record once and for all, saying: "With Daniel, unfortunately for him and his career, it's been ongoing in terms of injuries.

"He's had a number of issues this season which aren't related to the operation he's had. We feel now, hopefully this can cure a lot of the problems he's had and I'm sure he'll work over the coming months to get back fit.

"Everyone has seen that when he is fit and playing, he's an outstanding player. He has been a big miss to us this season, but let's hope he can get back fit and help contribute for the club. Once he's fully fit, we know what he can produce. If he's at that level of fitness, he can be a key player for us."

There can be no denying that Sturridge makes a massive impact for Liverpool when he's able to take the pitch. The club's win rate with the No. 15 is considerably higher than without him.

Furthermore, despite suffering from ailment after ailment, Sturridge still has more goals to his name in the past two seasons than some of the Premier League's most expensive forwards.
