So far, so good.

New York Yankees ace Masahiro Tanaka made 50 tosses from 60 feet Thursday in his first throwing session since landing on the disabled list with a forearm strain and wrist tendinitis last month.

Tanaka, who's expected to throw again Friday before graduating to long toss, did not speak to reporters after the workout. Manager Joe Girardi indicated the right-hander is making progress in his recovery, and is confident he'll be ready to rejoin the rotation in June.

"It would be great to get Tanaka back in the timetable they talked about earlier," Girardi told reporters prior to Thursday's series opener against the Baltimore Orioles. "Then it just gives us a lot more depth, which I think is important over the course of a long season."

Tanaka, who's pitching with a partially torn elbow ligament suffered last summer, was placed on the DL at the end of April after performing to mixed results over four starts. The 26-year-old struck out 24 in 22 1/3 innings with a 3.22 ERA.
