Report: Buccaneers decline Doug Martin's 5th-year option

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers decided not to exercise the fifth-year option in running back Doug Martin's contract, Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Martin will become a free agent after the 2015 season.

The contracts for all players drafted in the first round of the 2012 draft include fifth-year options that, if exercised, pay players a 2016 salary equal to the value of the transition tender (for top-10 picks) or equal to the average of the third through 25th-highest salaries at the player's position (picks 11-32).

The deadline to pick up the option was May 3.

Martin rushed for 1,454 yards as a rookie but hasn't topped 500 yards in either of the following seasons.
