Philadelphia-area retailer offering insurance for jerseys of new Eagles

Chip Kelly insisted Saturday that quarterback Sam Bradford is here to stay, but some Philadelphia Eagles fans are still weary about dropping money on a No. 7 jersey.

"People are just starting to say, you know what, I'm gonna start buying legends and Hall of Famers, because if I buy a new jersey, that guy's gone in two months," Yardley, Pa., resident Bill Van Veen told Brian Wilson of FOX 29.

Fortunately, one local sporting goods store has come up with a solution: jersey insurance.

"It's just a little protection. If you want a Tim Tebow jersey, you can come in, and we'll offer you … insurance!" Ryan Smyth of Schuylkill Valley Sports explained.

The insurance costs $10, but if a fan purchases an NFL jersey and that player is traded or gone from the team within 18 months, that fan can bring back the receipt and buy another jersey for half price (while still getting to keep the original jersey). Schuylkill Valley Sports is offering the insurance at all 18 of its locations.

Kelly was asked Saturday during an appearance on NFL Network whether it's safe for local retailers to start selling Bradford jerseys and reiterated what he said after the Eagles traded for the former No. 1 overall pick.

"Yeah, it was safe the day after we traded for him," Kelly said. "We traded for him for a reason. He wasn't a bargaining chip for us. We got great confidence in Sam as well as Mark (Sanchez) and Matt (Barkley) ... and we threw Tim Tebow into the mix so we're really excited here."
