One particularly, uh, zealous San Francisco Giants fan has resorted to drastic measures to defend the wholesomeness of Willie Mays' legacy and condemn Alex Rodriguez's comparatively unsavory history in the game of baseball.

The anonymous fan took out a full-page ad in the New York Daily News this week imploring MLB commissioner Rob Manfred to add an asterisk next to Rodriguez's name when the embattled 39-year-old eventually surpasses Willie Mays on the all-time home run list.

Unfortunately, the fan neglected to specify where Rodriguez's name should be marked with an asterisk or, alternatively, contained within parentheses. On the official website of Major League Baseball? Perhaps on the pages of Baseball-Reference.com? Surely, his name mustn't be shoved between parentheses on his driver's license, right?

In his highly misguided appeal to the commissioner, the fan also neglected to mention that Mays' former teammate, John Milner, testified under oath that the legend's locker was a source of amphetamines during his inglorious stint with the New York Mets at the end of his career.

Though the New York Yankees have not yet revealed their intention to affix an asterisk to his name when Rodriguez launches his record-breaking home run, the club remains embroiled in an ugly squabble with the 14-time All-Star over the $6-million bonus he's owed when he ties Mays with his 660th career homer.
