Kansas City Royals manager Ned Yost admitted there's concern over whether shortstop Alcides Escobar suffered a concussion Wednesday after getting hit in the face by a 96-mph fastball from Cleveland Indians pitcher Danny Salazar.

Escobar dropped to the ground in the fifth inning when he was struck in the head by Salazar's 2-2 pitch, which appeared to clip the Royals infielder on the left cheek. He remained face down in the dirt before walking off the field with the assistance of the training staff.

The Royals announced after the game that Escobar suffered a left cheek contusion, and he'll continue undergoing tests for a concussion.

"I saw the video," Escobar told Andy McCullough of the Kansas City Star. "Wow. That's hard."

Escobar said he was left feeling dizzy after the incident, but had experienced noticeable improvement by the time the Royals' 7-5 loss was over. He was optimistic of playing Thursday against the Detroit Tigers.

Escobar's injury comes less than 24 hours after Arizona Diamondbacks pitcher Archie Bradley was struck in the head by a comebacker off the bat of Colorado Rockies outfielder Carlos Gonzalez.
