Dolphins' Dion Jordan suspended entire 2015 season for drug violation

Miami Dolphins defensive end Dion Jordan will be suspended for the entire 2015 season for violating the league's substance abuse policy.

An interesting aside to the suspension is a report by ESPN's Adam Schefter that the Philadelphia Eagles were close to trading for Jordan before the failed drug test. It would have been another Oregon reunion for Chip Kelly, but that is not going to happen now.

Jeff McLane of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports that a conditional late-round pick was being considered in exchange for Jordan. He also notes that a trade involving Eagles guard Evan Mathis was discussed by the two teams.

Jordan did not fail a drug test, but a sample that he provided to the league was diluted and therefore counted as a strike. His decision not to appeal is a good indication that there was something amiss.

The Dolphins released a statement on the suspension:

We were disappointed to learn about Dion Jordan’s most recent suspension for violating the NFL’s Policy and Program for Substances of Abuse. A player’s health and well-being are of the utmost importance to us. We have made every effort to support Dion, both on and off the field and we will continue to do so to the extent allowable under NFL guidelines.

The third overall pick in the 2013 draft missed six games due to suspension in 2014 for different drug-related infractions.

In two seasons, Jordan has struggled to find a consistent role with the Dolphins, accumulating only three sacks and 46 tackles. He had not been with the team during offseason workouts, and it now makes sense that Dolphins management refused to address his absence last week
