Report: Jets would pass on Marcus Mariota with No. 6 pick

Matthew Emmons / USA TODAY Sports

Oregon quarterback Marcus Mariota is unlikely to last until the sixth pick in this week's NFL Draft, but if he does, the New York Jets would reportedly pass on drafting him.

According to ESPN's Rich Cimini, the "latest buzz in league circles" is that the Jets are content to move forward with Geno Smith and Ryan Fitzpatrick as their immediate options at quarterback.

The Jets are also letting teams know they are willing to move down in an effort to accumulate extra draft picks, so No. 6 could be an optimal target for a team who wants Mariota, should the Oregon product slide.

As it stands now, Mariota is expected to be taken with the second pick by the Tennessee Titans or a team trading up to that spot to get him.

The Jets will most likely select a pass rusher or wide receiver if they stay in the No. 6 spot.
