Remember Thomas Vermaelen? It's alright if you don't. We won't hold it against you.

After all, the Belgian hasn't seen the pitch since the 2014 World Cup.

The former Arsenal defender, who made a £15-million move to Barcelona this summer, has yet to make his debut with the club due to a hamstring injury - one which ultimately required surgery.

Now, at long last, he's back, according to a statement released by the club on Sunday.

Five months after injuring his right leg, FC Barcelona's Belgian defender Thomas Vermaelen has received medical clearance. He underwent surgery back in December and will now be fully available for Luis Enrique in the home stretch of the season.

Vermaelen was given the medical all-clear following Sunday morning's workout at the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper

With Barcelona in the midst of a title race and in the semifinals of the Champions League, it's difficult to see Vermaelen get much, if any, action in the final weeks of the season.
