Manchester United's one-man show: Why David De Gea should win PFA Player of the Year

Where would Manchester United be without the reflexes of David De Gea between the posts?

Time and time again, the 24-year-old Spaniard has rescued points for Louis van Gaal's side in a match where they didn't deserve a result. And if any 'keeper is worthy of the PFA Player of the Year award, it's De Gea. 

The nomination is somewhat like last year's nomination of Manuel Neuer for the Ballon d'Or. How do you accurately compare a 'keeper's performance to one from an outfield player?

Well, it's obviously a subjective task, but De Gea has some favorable statistics attached to his name. For example, 10 clean sheets in 33 Premier League appearances in an excellent number, particularly when you consider the struggles and injuries United have had to deal with at the back this season.

However, De Gea's reading of the game and jaw-dropping reflexes are what set him apart from most 'keepers in the league. 

Performances like the one he put in during United's 3-0 win versus Liverpool - when he saved all nine of the Merseyside club's shorts on target - are mesmerizing.

It's unlikely that De Gea wins the award, but there's a reason why United supporters are calling for the 'keeper to remain at Old Trafford.
