Blue Jays' Bautista out with shoulder strain, DL stint possible

Toronto Blue Jays right fielder Jose Bautista is out of Wednesday's lineup against the Baltimore Orioles with a shoulder strain.

An MRI revealed the injury which is expected to keep the five-time All-Star out for at least a couple days. A trip to the disabled list is a possibility if Bautista doesn't improve.

Bautista had been playing with a sore shoulder for roughly one week and aggravated it when he tried to throw out Delmon Young at first base from right field during the eighth inning of Tuesday's 13-6 blowout win.

He admitted Wednesday he probably shouldn't have made the throw, which occurred after a heated confrontation in the seventh.

Orioles right-hander Jason Garcia threw behind Bautista with the Orioles trailing by seven runs. Bautista stared Garcia down and then proceeded to launch a no-doubt homer off him.

He admired the blast and then got into a verbal spat with Orioles star Adam Jones. The two continued their war of words in postgame scrums with reporters following the contest.

Major League Baseball is reportedly investigating Tuesday night's incident.

Manager John Gibbons said he planned to give Bautista the game off, anyway, based on his 2-for-29 career mark versus Baltimore starter Ubaldo Jimenez.

Bautista is batting .149 with a .748 OPS and team-high-tying four homers through 14 games.
